Crowns

Dental Crown

A dental crown is a durable, custom-made cap that covers and protects a damaged or weakened tooth. Crowns are designed to restore the tooth’s shape, strength, and appearance, while blending naturally with your smile. Modern crowns are crafted from high-quality materials - such as porcelain, zirconia, or porcelain-fused-to-metal - for long-lasting function and an aesthetic, natural look.

Why You May Need a Crown

You may benefit from a dental crown if you have:

  • A cracked or fractured tooth
  • A tooth weakened by a large filling
  • A tooth that has undergone root canal therapy
  • Severe decay that cannot be restored with a filling alone
  • Worn-down enamel from grinding or erosion
  • Cosmetic concerns, such as discoloration or misshapen teeth
  • A dental implant that requires a final restoration

Crowns not only improve appearance - they also protect the tooth from further damage and restore proper chewing function.

What to Expect

Getting a dental crown is a comfortable, straightforward process that typically takes two visits. Here’s what you can expect:

Numbing and Tooth Preparation

We begin by gently numbing the area so you stay completely comfortable. The tooth is then shaped to remove any decay or old filling material and create the ideal space for your new crown.

Digital Dental Scan

A precise digital scan or traditional impression is taken of your tooth. This ensures your crown will fit naturally and blend seamlessly with your surrounding teeth.

Shade Matching

We select the perfect shade to match your natural tooth color for the most aesthetic result.

Temporary Crown Placement

A temporary crown is placed to protect your tooth while the permanent crown is being made. It allows you to speak, chew, and smile normally until your next visit.

What to Expect at Your Crown Delivery Appointment

Removing the Temporary Crown

We gently remove your temporary and clean the tooth underneath.

Fitting Your New Crown

Your custom crown is tried in to check fit, shape, bite, and color. Any necessary adjustments are made to ensure it feels comfortable and looks natural.

Cementing the Crown

Once everything looks and feels right, the crown is permanently cemented into place.

Final Bite Check

We double-check that your bite is balanced so your new crown feels great right away

How to Care for Your New Crown

  After getting a temporary crown:

  • Avoid sticky, hard, or chewy foods on the temporary side.
  • Brush gently around the area and floss carefully by sliding the floss out rather than pulling up.
  • Call us if the temporary crown becomes loose or comes off.

After your permanent crown is placed:

  • You may experience mild sensitivity for a few days - this is normal.
  • Brush and floss normally; crowns require the same care as natural teeth.
  • Avoid chewing very hard foods (ice, hard candies) on the crown to extend its lifespan.
  • If your bite feels uneven after the numbness wears off, let us know - an adjustment may be needed.

Most crowns last many years with proper home care and regular checkups.
